Where Are They Now?

The Digestive Surgery Research Laboratory is proud of its reputation for attracting the best and brightest researchers from the United States and abroad. Three of our most recent research fellows have graduated from the University of Louisville. Where are they now? Read their success stories!

Since his return to England in 2003, Daniel Colliver, MB, ChB, MRCS (Eng), MRCS (Edin), received a promotion and has started a new position as a Specialist Registrar in General Surgery in Trent, UK.

Nigel Crawford, MD


In June 2004, the University of Louisville presented Nigel Crawford, MD, with the John Richard Binford Award for outstanding graduate thesis. He completed his PhD in physiology and biophysics. Crawford, of Swindon, England, took a post-doctoral position with the National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, Maryland.

Sonja M. S. Uthoff Whitaker, MD

Sonja M. S. Uthoff Whitaker, MD, concluded her PhD in physiology and graduated with honors in December 2004. Whitaker, who hails from Germany, now resides in Kentucky with her husband, Chad, and their two sons.

Crawford and Whitaker are the first two research fellows from the Digestive Surgery Research Laboratory to receive the academic degree of PhD from the University of Louisville.
