"The most rewarding aspect of caring for patients is being an active participant in the healing process," says Jeffrey R. Jorden, M.D., assistant professor of surgery, Section of Colon & Rectal Surgery.

Medical Training
Dr. Jorden is a 1999 graduate of the University of South Florida College of Medicine, Tampa, where he also received his general surgery training. After completing his colorectal surgery residency at the University of Louisville's Section of Colon & Rectal Surgery in July 2005, Jorden joined the faculty.

"I enjoy the challenges of academia, and wanted to continue mentoring fellows, residents, and medical students. In addition, because of the breadth and depth of the Section's program, I have the opportunity to develop a focus in minimally invasive colorectal procedures."

Clinical Focus
Jorden has recently gained experience with the latest advances in robotic and laparoscopic colorectal surgery procedures as a visiting fellow at the University of Padova, Italy. He hopes to apply the techniques he has learned to treat a variety of colon and rectal diseases including, inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer, diverticulitis, colorectal polyps, and constipation.

Professional Organizations
Jorden is a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the American Medical Association.

When he is not in the operating room, he enjoys spending time with his wife Jennifer and their young son, Joshua.
